LIFT Camps are designed to introduce students to the world of aviation and then provide them with the resources and connections needed to pursue an aviation career after high school. To do this, we give students both ground and flight instruction, and we bring in different professionals in avaiton to come speak with the students and answer any questions they might have.
We serve Charleston County students between the ages of 15 to 19.
We provide students with a brief ground lesson on the basics of flight and an aircraft walk-around to show them the different parts of the planes. After that, students complete their first flight lesson with a certified flight instructor. Finally, we have representatives from various parts of the aviation field explain their jobs in aviation and possible career paths after high school!
The primary benefit to students is that they get to discover the world of aviation and all of the career paths it can offer. They are also able to meet and connect with professionals in the aviation field. At the LIFT Camp, students are provided with a Pilot Logbook (so they can log their first flight lesson, an LCAA t-shirt, and snacks. Students who attend a LIFT Camp may be eligible for a $2,500 flight training scholarship.
LIFT Camps are held at Berkeley County Airport (616 Whitesville Rd, Moncks Corner, SC 29461).
LIFT Camps are held on the third Saturday, August through November, and January through April. For more specific dates, please contact us for more information.
Please reach us at lowcountryflying@gmail.com for specific information or if you have more questions!
We require our students to be at least 15 years old. This gives them the ability to continue flight training after a LIFT camp. (Plus, it ensures that all students are able to apply for our Flight Scholarship if they would like to.)
Younger students may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Yes, as long as your student is 15-19, and you are in the general Charleston SC area.
Before an instructor can give flight training, they must confirm citizenship and issue a TSA endorsement. To do this the student must provide either an original birth certificate AND a government-issued ID (state or federal) OR an unexpired passport. These documents must be brought to the LIFT Camp.
More information can be found at https://duboisaviation.com/t-s-a-requirments/ or contact the LCAA.
If your student forgets to bring the documents for the TSA endorsement, they will still be able to fly, however, they will not be able to receive flight training.
Note: Students who can not provide the documents for TSA endorsement during the application process will only be considered on a case-by-case basis.
We will reach out to you as soon as we see a completed application. We primarily communicate through email (lowcountryflying@gmail.com).
Three weeks before a LIFT camp, the board of directors considers all complete applications. The most suitable candidates are given slots for the next suitable LIFT camp.
While we are not able to have parents or other family members fly, we love to have them joining for the ground portions of the LIFT camps, and the career briefs. Parents are welcome to join so that they can understand the different pathways to a career in aviation, and how beneficial that career can be!
No, lunch is not provided. However, we do provide students with snacks.
We are excited to accept applications for upcoming LIFT Camp sessions, and look forward to hearing from you!
